The Guild offers a huge thank you to the Archdiocese of Washington’s Catholic Schools Office for inviting the Guild and organizing insightful professional development while also offering time together to grow and share. Educators know how to inspire and are themselves inspirational. We thank them for their ministry and sharing their gifts with our children.
Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kensington Maryland welcomed the Guild on June 22, 2023 for our Memorial Mass of the 19th anniversary of Mattie’s death, and the Guild was honored to have Msgr. John J. Enzler back to celebrate the Mass and offer his homily.
Guild Director Cheryl Kerwin delivered a powerful talk at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Derwood Maryland this spring noting that “Christ goes to His cross and He offers his very life up for our sins; the expiation of our sins.”

Fr. Mateo offered a deeply felt homily sharing how he ‘met’ Mattie through Mattie’s writings. “His message sounds in my heart – his Heartsong – is just that: we have direction, we have purpose, we know – we are here – what for, why were we created … Mattie, as young as he was, he accepted his call for holiness.”
Mattie talked with God about his purpose. And Mattie shared God’s messages to the world. But Jesus was his role model. Through the Eucharist we see the gift of Jesus – we see the thank you to our Father. We also see the Amen – the YES – that Jesus gave our Father.
